HATHA & SOUND BATH

with Felipe Munevar ✢ 1/12/2024

This studio is a hidden gem. It felt like entering the home of a great friend upon entrance. It was a business that brought me back to a time when before the time when everything was designed by computers and then executed by laborers unrelated to the people who were occupying the space. Like your favourite pair of jeans, it was perfectly worn in and molded just the way you like it to feel - right at home in your body. The space had a handmade appeal to it - as opposed to some corporate cookie-cutter all-neutral/grey everything motif that seems to plague today’s interior design. It was similar comfort feeling to the vibe you get when you are walking into someone’s home as opposed to a business. This made me feel at ease in a way I had never felt in a studio prior.

In the entryway, they had a photo gallery on the wall that paid homage to various great yogis from history who have come before us. I always know I'm in for a spiritual treat when I enter a studio that has photos of the greats displayed. There is a very cute boutique at the entrance that had beautiful clothing and spiritual materials for sale. It offered more organic and one-of-a-kind pieces as opposed to the modern wares of most studio boutiques.

Felipe is an incredible instructor. He is a master guide in hatha Asanas and maintains an ultimate presence in the current moment. My mind wasn’t able to wander as much because he was so present with us as an instructor. I know it sounds woo, but the intention of the instructor really matters to me. I can tell when they are worried or daydreaming about something else during practice. Felipe had an incredible one-point focus on maintaining an absolute presence as our guide. This space was so small and intimate that It felt like we were receiving private instruction.

The class was perfect and exactly what I needed when I signed up for a Hatha class. It is very, very rare for me to find hatha classes available in Miami. Not only did this studio provide Hatha sessions - it provided one of the best hatha classes I’ve ever taken. Felipe understood each person’s particular limits and strengths and provided wonderful opportunities for modification when one of the yogis mentioned her injuries. He even offered her an entirely separate mini-flow within our flow so she could feel included. I have never seen that happen before. He is so compassionate and amazing at holding so much all at once with much poise.

His hands-on adjustments were perfect, and his ability to queue to breath with the sound of his own powerful audible breathwork while simultaneously speaking instructional cues to us was astounding. I have only heard a teacher breathe loudly for pacing but never heard them talk and breath at the same time. Felipe is a master of breathwork. He is king of his lungs. His cues to breath brought me deeper into the spiritual side of yoga. The more intentional my breath the less as if I am going through the motions and the more that I am accessing a full body prayer during sequencing.

There was a sound bath during Savasana, and our third eyes were massaged with essential oils. I was in ultimate bliss during this portion of the practice. I couldn’t believe the level of healing and transporting vibrations that engulfed me during corpse pose. I truly felt myself die and leave large portions of that which did not serve me during this pose. When I awoke, I had a deep sense of serenity that lasted way longer than most post-practice natural highs.

I had an incredibly rough morning, so this class was exactly what I needed to reset my energy, maintain gratitude and focus on the present. Felipe is incredibly knowledgeable, and you should not miss out on a chance to learn and relax deeply with him.
