Yin

with Olena Kutasevych ✢ 12/27/2023

The studio was a very fun shape. The entire interior of the space outside of the studio was designed to keep you engaged. The waiting room area was very comfortable and grounding. There was a juice bar & cafe at the check-in point. They had some delicious-looking stuff, but having just eaten dinner, I can’t speak to its deliciousness myself but the reviews left by others definitely rave about it!

Olena’s class was a lullaby for my muscles, bones, and brain. She utilized a perfect soundtrack for yin, which relied heavily on sound bowls and lyricless vibrational frequencies. When lyrics aren’t involved, the vritti seem to subside for me with far less effort. Olena even had a rainmaker instrument that she walked around with - which fully transported me to a deeper inner center. The luxuriously tall ceilings make way for a greatly resonant sound bath experience.

Her voice was a soft, nurturing guide through multiple body scan relaxation journeys. She took the time to list each body part and gave me enough time to envision it relaxing/healing. Her timing was wonderful. I felt like it was an approach towards a Nidra class because she was adept at creating a journey through her words during the deliciously long poses. Most Yin classes I have attended are silent, and each pose creates a place for me to get distracted by the rat race in my mind. Olena kept me concentrating on what was right in front of me: my body and mind. The tone of her voice, in combination with her soft accent, was so soothing.

Her poses provided an incredible release of tension from my spine, neck, and face. I enjoyed how many opportunities she gave us for modifications. The studio provides sturdy props, which are so necessary when enjoying a yin class. It seemed like all of the yogis in the room were avid yin practitioners because I didn’t hear the awkward shifting and sniffling I usually hear when I attend Yin classes with people who aren’t used to sitting with themselves in such long holds without stimulation. I also believe that Olena kept everyone in a semi-conscious state with her wonderful cues.

I cannot recommend her class enough for anyone who wants a guaranteed physical and emotional reset. This was the first yoga class I was able to convince my mother to attend. She is averse to all forms of movement, especially amongst others in public. After an hour with Olena, she immediately said she wanted to practice yoga again. She also complained about her back aching on the way over and exclaimed how much better her back felt after just one hour of yin with Olena. She is a great intro to yoga for those who have never experienced it before.
